Georgia is seeking to further strengthen its partnership with China, particularly in the field of infrastructure, Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure Revaz Sokhadze said during Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze’s official visit to China.
Sokhadze, who is attending the China International Import Expo in Shanghai, pointed out that closer cooperation with China holds strategic significance for Georgia’s long-term development goals.
“China is one of our main partners in infrastructure,” the minister stated. “Chinese companies are already actively engaged in major projects across the country, and we hope this cooperation will expand even further. This visit aims precisely to reinforce those ties.”
In recent years, Chinese state-owned and private construction firms have become central players in Georgia’s infrastructure landscape. They have secured numerous international tenders by offering competitive bids on projects financed by global institutions such as the World Bank, Asian Development Bank (ADB), European Investment Bank (EIB) and European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD). These projects cover a wide range of sectors, from transport and energy to regional infrastructure, with the total value of contracts amounting to several billion GEL.
