The Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia has asked to set bail for former Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili at 1 million GEL, along with restrictions preventing him from leaving the country.
Prosecutor General Giorgi Gvarakidze announced at a briefing that Garibashvili has been charged under Article 194, Part 3, Subparagraph “C” of the Criminal Code, which concerns the legalization of illegal income and obtaining particularly large amounts of illicit funds. Gvarakidze says the former prime minister has fully admitted guilt.
The requested bail amount may be secured either in cash or through real estate, the Prosecutor’s Office said. In addition, prosecutors are seeking the confiscation of Garibashvili’s Georgian passport and a ban on foreign travel as part of the preventive measures.
The court hearing on the matter is expected to take place in the coming days.
