The spokesperson for Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has denied reports circulating in Georgian media claiming that Armenia plans to transfer a border village to Georgia.
In a statement, Nazeli Baghdasaryan addressed what she described as false information regarding an alleged agreement reached within the framework of the border delimitation process.
“Certain media outlets have spread ‘information’ claiming that, as part of the delimitation process, an agreement has been reached under which the Armenian village of Jiliza, located in the Alaverdi community, will be transferred to the Georgian side.
Any statement, assumption or ‘information’ suggesting an intention, plan or agreement to transfer any part of the sovereign territory of the Republic of Armenia to another country does not correspond to reality.
Accordingly, as before, now and in the future, we will deny any publications of this nature, as they are fabricated,” Baghdasaryan said.
On April 27, Prime Minister Pashinyan stated during an event marking the Day of the Border Troops of Armenia’s National Security Service that Armenia will continue the border delimitation process with Azerbaijan in the near future. He also noted that finalizing and concluding the delimitation process with Georgia is on the agenda.
Following his remarks, several Georgian media outlets reported that Armenia was allegedly preparing to hand over a border village to Georgia.
