“The Sector Economy and Economic Policy Committee plays one of the most instrumental roles in the activities of the Parliament – the economy and its development are directly related to the improvement of the quality of life and well-being of the people,” stated the Speaker of the Parliament Shalva Papuashvili at the presentation of the activity report of the Sector Economy and Economic Policy Committee for the 6 months of 2021 and 2022.
He opened the event with a welcome speech and dwelt on the important role of the Committee in terms of economic development.
“When Georgia is in the process of implementing the Association Agreement, it is the contribution of this Committee that enables us to say that we are the leaders in terms of the implementation of the Association Agreement and that half of the DCFTA part has already been implemented. After the passage of the constitutional reform and the new regulations, the Parliament received whole new tools for parliamentary oversight. One of the twelve objectives that the Georgian Parliament is working on right now is to critically study these documents once more and make the necessary revisions and corrections,” Papuashvili stated.
The Speaker noted that despite the reduction of the poverty line, the economy is still one of the main challenges and therefore, it is important to carry out the right economic policy, which needs appropriate legislative support.
“The Sector Economy and Economic Policy Committee is in close communication with the government and it is establishing these regulations in a timely manner,” the Speaker stated.
Papuashvili thanked the Chair, members and staff of the Committee for their effective work.
