On October 24, President Salome Zurabishvili met with opposition female MPs.
As the representatives of the opposition said after the meeting, the main topic was European integration. They claim that the president has her own vision for the EU membership candidate status, which she will present to the public in the coming days.
“It is a fact that the threats and accusations of Georgian Dream have no influence on the president. She intends to continue to protect the country’s European status with her own political moves and decisions. It was about how she sees our mandate. She listened to our recommendations”, said Khatuna Samnidze, leader of the Republican Party.
Salome Samadashvili, a member of the Lelo party, stated that the president also considered a coordinated action with the opposition could help lead to candidacy.
“The President has a very strong desire to coordinate action so that despite the unfulfilled conditions, we will receive candidate status. She has her own vision of what should be done from this point of view, and she will introduce it to society,” said Samadashvili.
The conversation with the president was also related to controversial laws, including the hastily introduced amendments to the Broadcasting Law.
“I believe that the president should use the right of veto in connection with these changes,” said the independent deputy of the parliament, Tamar Kordzaia.
