Nordic countries join int’l calls for a thorough and impartial investigation on Georgia elections

We, the Nordic countries, join the international calls for a detailed and impartial investigation into the mentioned violations before the 26th election in Georgia and on the day of the election, – the statement of the Nordic countries said, adding that this is essential to dispel doubts about the fairness of the electoral process.

“Nordic countries strongly support the goal of Euro-Atlantic integration, which is based on common fundamental values.

“In recent years, we have been watching Georgia’s political trajectory with growing concern. The policies implemented by the Georgian government and the adopted legislations have been increasingly moving away from the path corresponding to the European and Euro-Atlantic integration. Upholding the rule of law and democratic elections is essential for any progress on Georgia’s EU path.

“As foreign ministers of the Nordic countries, we sincerely hope that Georgia will return to the path that will lead it to its rightful place in the European and Euro-Atlantic family. We will continue to closely monitor the events in Georgia and judge the Georgian government according to its actions”, the statement said.
