Nominees for the Best Translation are announced for SABA

Nominees for the Best Translation are announced for SABA

Georgian Literary Prize ‘SABA,’ founded by TBC Bank and Rati Amaghlobeli, will recognize outstanding literary voices in Georgia for the 22nd time in 2024.


This year, exceptional authors and pieces will be awarded across nine different categories, whilst the winner for ‘the remarkable contribution to the evolution of literature’ will be announced directly at the ceremony.

The nominees for best translation into the Georgian language were revealed today:


Bachana Chabradze – ‘Ubu Roi’ by Alfred Jarry; ‘The Breasts of Tiresias’ by Guillaume Apollinaire;
Giorgi Kakhishvili – ‘Works and Days’ by Hesiod;
Giorgi Lobzhanidze – ‘Masnavi’ (third book) by Jalal al-Din Muhammad Rumi;
Giorgi Kharaishvili – ‘Oh, William!’ by Elizabeth Strout;
Elisabed (Dodo) Kvavilashvili – ‘The Aleph’ by Jorge Luis Borges;
Zaza Chiladze and Gia Chumburidze – ‘On Photography’ by Susan Sontag;
Tamar Lomidze – ‘Eichmann in Jerusalem’ by Hannah Arendt;
Tea Shurghaia – ‘My Uncle Napoleon’ by Iraj Pezeshkzad;
Katja Wolters – ‘Flights’ by Olga Tokarczuk;
Maia Fanjikidze – ‘Old Masters’ by Thomas Bernhard;
Paata Javakhishvili – ‘At Night All Blood is Black’ by David Diop;
Rusudan Ghvinepadze – ‘Diaries’ by Franz Kafka;
Khatuna Tskhadadze – ‘The Path to the Net of Spiders’ by Italo Calvino.
