Nanuka Zhorzholiani has publicly appealed to Giorgi Gabitashvili, Georgia’s Prosecutor General, calling on authorities to lift the seizure of GEL 400,000 from the charitable organization, reminding that the frozen funds are meant solely for socially vulnerable individuals and severely ill children.
Zhorzholiani says that the accusations against her are politically motivated. “I promise publicly that this money will not go to prisoners or their families. I wasn’t using it for fines, and I never intended to. It is meant only for those in dire need—children fighting for their lives,” she stated.
She called on authorities to prioritize humanitarian needs over political disputes. “If you don’t release these funds, I will take it as confirmation that my work and my fund are the real issue for you and that the well-being of these children doesn’t matter. If that’s the case, create your own fund and support every child who reaches out to me. Do it with the same urgency we have.”
She also acknowledged potential administrative missteps, admitting that in the rush to provide aid timely, paperwork may not always have been handled perfectly. “I’m sure we made technical mistakes. We prioritized people’s needs first and sometimes submitted documents afterward. But what matters is where the money went.”
Zhorzholiani also revealed that prosecutors are preparing additional charges against her. “I’m ready for whatever comes next, but my only request is to let the fund continue doing what it was created to do.”
