Mzia Amaglobeli, founder of Netgazeti and Batumelebi, has filed a defamation lawsuit against Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze, parliamentary majority leader Mamuka Mdinaradze, and MP Sozar Subari of People’s Power.
As the lawsuit declares, which was submitted on May 7 to the Civil Cases Board of Tbilisi City Court, Amaglobeli demands that public statements made by these three politicians “at various times through mass media” be classified as defamatory and officially retracted “by the same means.”
The claim takes into account several legal grounds, including Articles 9, 12, and 31 of the Georgian Constitution, Article 6 of the European Convention on Human Rights, and various provisions of Georgia’s Civil Code and the Law on Freedom of Speech and Expression.
The date of the hearing has yet to be announced.
