The Defense and Security Committee held a meeting to discuss the draft Defense Code, with the participation of representatives from civil society and experts in the field. During the session, the Deputy Minister of Defense, Grigol Giorgadze, introduced the proposed changes to the code and responded to questions from the participants.
Following the meeting, the Chairman of the Committee and representatives from civil society made assessments of the preparation process of the code and the significance of the new legislative initiative. Irakli Beraia stated:
“In the field of defense, this is an important reform that will respond to the defense and security needs of our country. The code introduces many important changes, such as the levels of management of the defense forces, new approaches to the recruitment of conscripts, social guarantees for military personnel, and others. It should be noted that the new legislative initiative will further increase and improve the legal compatibility of our defense bases with NATO.”
As Beraia noted, the development of the code was an inclusive process, with the participation of the Ministry of Defense, the Defense and Security Committee, experts, and representatives from the legal group of the US Department of Defense.
