Lelo and Gakharia parties condemn Orbeliani Palace incursion: “This discredits peaceful protest”

Opposition parties Lelo – Strong Georgia and For Georgia (Gakharia) issued statements regarding the events at the October 4 protest in Tbilisi.

“Change of government must occur only through elections and constitutional means — this is the path we chose and firmly believe in. Violence is unacceptable, no matter who it comes from. The ruling Ivanishvili regime bears full responsibility for any escalation of the process,” said Lelo – Strong Georgia.

The statement also criticized today’s organizers for attempting to discredit the peaceful, nationwide protest, stressing that the country is in a deep political crisis and society remains divided. “The only proper solution is the immediate appointment of new parliamentary elections,” the party added.

For Georgia also condemned the attempt to seize Orbeliani Palace: “What is happening now discredits the peaceful public protest. Violence is unacceptable. We call on all Georgian citizens not to participate in radical or destructive provocations. Escalation of these uncontrolled events serves only the interests of Georgia’s enemies.”

President Salome Zurabishvili likewise distanced herself from the Orbeliani Palace incident, stating that “this farce could only have been staged by the regime.”

Meanwhile, pro-European protests continue on Rustaveli Avenue. Following a call by National Movement member Murtaz Zodelava, some demonstrators moved to the Presidential Administration building, where special police units used crowd-control measures.

Tensions in Tbilisi remain high, with clashes and heavy police presence continuing.
