Chairman of the Georgian Dream, Irakli Kobakhidze, commented on the report published by the European Commission and noted that if the decision had been made last year based on objective criteria rather than on political grounds, Georgia would definitely have the candidate status.
“This was made clear by the European Commission itself when it published today’s report. Therefore, when this year, based on objective criteria, as a rule, the European Commission and then the Council must make a decision regarding the status of the candidate, it is already clear that there is no alternative. The evaluation document of the European Commission makes it clear that under the conditions of decision-making based on objective criteria, Georgia should definitely receive the status of a candidate for EU membership this year,” stated Kobakhidze.
He added that Georgia is ahead of Moldova in practically all criteria. “As for Ukraine, we understand that the country is a war and in certain areas it needed, so to speak, encouragement,” he added.
