During an official visit to Yerevan, GD-elect President Mikheil Kavelashvili reaffirmed Georgia’s strong commitment to regional peace and deeper cooperation with Armenia. Speaking alongside Armenian President Vahagn Khachaturyan, Kavelashvili highlighted Georgia’s role in promoting stability in the South Caucasus and emphasized the close bilateral relations between the two countries.
“Georgia firmly supports the peace-building process in the South Caucasus and is ready to deepen regional cooperation in every respect,” Kavelashvili stated. He praised the strategic partnership between Georgia and Armenia, noting that Armenia is one of Georgia’s most important trading partners and a top source of international visitors.
“This is my first official visit to Armenia as President, and I am honored by the exceptional hospitality I’ve received. Despite ongoing global challenges, our political, economic, and cultural ties continue to grow stronger,” he added.
Reflecting on the broader regional context, Kavelashvili reiterated Georgia’s unwavering support for Armenia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, and expressed gratitude for Armenia’s consistent support for Georgia’s sovereignty and non-recognition policy. The leaders also reviewed regional challenges and Georgia’s peaceful conflict resolution policy, including the de-occupation of its territories and reconciliation between divided communities.
Kavelashvili welcomed the recent announcement by Armenia and Azerbaijan on completing negotiations for a peace agreement, calling it a promising step forward. “We are optimistic that a peace agreement will soon be signed, marking a significant milestone in fostering a stable and secure South Caucasus,” he said.
He also highlighted the significance of the April 17 trilateral meeting in Tbilisi, calling it a symbol of emerging cooperation between South Caucasus nations. “Georgia remains committed to building a just, peaceful, and cooperative regional order,” Kavelashvili noted.
In a gesture of cultural diplomacy, he announced the upcoming Days of Georgian Culture in Yerevan from June 5–7, and the Days of Armenian Culture in Tbilisi next year. He emphasized the importance of preserving cultural heritage, national identity, and state sovereignty as shared values that unite both nations.
Concluding his remarks, Kavelashvili invited President Khachaturyan for an official visit to Georgia, expressing gratitude for the warm welcome and reaffirming the strength of Georgia-Armenia relations.
