Members of the European Parliament, colleagues from other institutions of the European Union and other Western partners are tired of the statements of Georgian officials and members of the ruling party that Georgia is dragged into the war and that they are trying to open a so-called second front, this is a propaganda manual of the Kremlin, this is not true, European Parliamentarian Marina Kaljurand said at the 12th session of the EU-Georgia Parliamentary Association Committee (PAC) in Brussels.
“We do not wish this for Georgia and the Georgian people. None of your friends ever tried to get you involved in a bloody war. We remember the war of 2008,” said the MEP.
She also responded to the statement of the Speaker of the Parliament, Chairman Shalva Papuashvili, that Georgia has already fulfilled 80 percent of the 12 recommendations of the European Commission.
“A couple of days ago, I read that the Chairman of the Parliament of Georgia, Shalva Papuashvili, said that 80 percent of the 12 recommendations of the Commission have already been implemented, and as a result, he expects a fair assessment from the European partners in the fall. I am sorry that these statements raise questions based on the information we have from the civil society of Georgia, as well as from the Commission and Western partners. Years ago, Georgia was a leader among the Eastern partners, the fact is that the progress regarding the 12 priorities is still incomplete and often superficial. This also affects the fact that today Georgia lags behind Ukraine and Moldova in some key areas,” the European parliamentarian said.
