Kakha Kaladze, Secretary General of Georgia’s ruling Georgian Dream party and Mayor of Tbilisi, strongly criticized Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Friday after sanctions were imposed on several Georgian officials, including Kaladze himself, Bidzina Ivanishvili, and Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze.
The sanctions were introduced following Georgia’s decision to delay EU accession talks until 2028. The measures prevent the targeted individuals from entering Ukraine, doing business there, and accessing assets in the country.
In his remarks, Kaladze expressed disappointment with Zelenskyy’s actions, stressing that Georgia continues to support Ukrainian refugees. “I wouldn’t wish the situation he’s in on anyone, even my enemy. He’s no longer acting for Ukraine or its people, but for external interests,” Kaladze claimed.
He also voiced confidence that Ukrainians would soon “recognize the true sources behind the challenges their country is facing.”
