Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze sharply criticized German Ambassador to Georgia Peter Fischer, saying it is “offensive” to refer to him as an ambassador, as Fischer has “crossed all diplomatic boundaries and red lines.”
Kaladze was responding to Fischer’s recent statement on X, where the ambassador noted his conversation with German Minister of State for Europe Gunther Krichbaum, expressing “big concern about the direction of Georgia” and affirming the German government’s full support for him.
Kaladze claimed that Fischer is actively involved in Georgia’s domestic political affairs, encouraging public confrontation and “inciting extremism to divide society.”
“It is deeply troubling when a representative of another country interferes in Georgia’s internal political affairs. Let us also recall the parliamentary elections and the statements made at that time — they were clearly part of the campaign. The Georgian people responded appropriately to these so-called diplomats, who harbour hostility towards Georgians, by defeating them at the polls,” Kaladze concluded.
German Ambassador to Georgia Peter Fischer announced on X that he had a constructive discussion with Germany’s Minister of State for Europe, Gunther Krichbaum, who expressed deep concern about Georgia’s current trajectory.
