Following the arrest of opposition leader Zurab Japaridze, U.S. Congressman Joe Wilson has deeply criticized the ruling Georgian Dream party, calling it an ‘anti-American regime’.
“The anti-American Georgian Dream regime has wrongly arrested key opposition figure Zurab Japaridze and is creating a precedent to jail all opposition,” Wilson wrote on X.
Declaring the move a ‘massive escalation,’ the Republican congressman warned it was part of a bigger power move and a direct path toward authoritarian allies. “This is the next step to consolidate power and hand the country to China and Iran,” he added.
