The International School of Economics at TSU (ISET) reported the Khachapuri Index for September 2024, noting that the price to prepare a standard Imeretian khachapuri has reached 6.48 GEL, a rise of 13% compared to the data from July 2024. The change was mainly caused by a 22% increase in cheese prices between July and September.
Other price increases include:
Yeast +21.7%
Milk +17.6%
Butter +12.1%
The report also reveals that khachapuri is the most expensive in Tbilisi at 7.04 GEL, making it 8.5% higher than the national average. Batumi, on the other hand, is the cheapest at 6.18 GEL. The report attributes the gap to seasonal changes, tourism behavior, and lower demand for famous Georgian dishes like khachapuri in seaside cities like Batumi.
