President of the International Republican Institute (IRI), Daniel Twining, commented on the recent statement from US Senator Roger Wicker regarding the Georgian parliamentary election, emphasizing that elections with such errors can halt Georgia’s EU integration, a common goal for 90% of the country’s population.
Senator Wicker had released a statement two days prior, aligning with President Zurabishvili’s opinion that the elections were unfair and did not reflect the Georgian people’s choice. He further called the elections a “farce,” highlighting their failure in transparency and legality. The senator’s comments increased international interest in Georgian elections, particularly concerning their implications for Georgia’s EU path.
“Strong words from a strong senator,” Twining said, expressing hope that Georgian authorities will recognize the risks.
