The Municipal Development Fund of the Ministry of Infrastructure says construction of World Rugby standard stadiums is set to start in Ambrolauri, Sachkhere, Lentekhi, and the village of Orbeli in Tsageri Municipality.
The Fund says an agreement has been signed with the company that won the tender, with the project expected to be completed within one year.
The project includes high-quality artificial turf, stands for 300 spectators, and modern lighting systems, allowing use at any time of day. Locker rooms, showers, technical spaces, and medical rooms are also planned.
The Fund states that the rugby technical centers will be equipped with modern security systems and adapted for all spectators, including people with disabilities.
The Municipal Development Fund also says it plans to build eight artificial turf rugby fields across the country, including in Ponichala, near the Tbilisi Sea, on the territory of Tbilisi Public School No. 180, in Tserovani in Mtskheta Municipality, Tskaltubo, Gurjaani, Stepantsminda in Kazbegi Municipality, and Surami in Khashuri Municipality.
Natural turf rugby stadiums are also planned in Kutaisi and the village of Gumbara in Tskaltubo Municipality. The Kutaisi ‘Aia’ and Tbilisi Avchala stadiums are also set to be rehabilitated.
The Ministry says the projects aim to support the development of sports infrastructure, promote a healthy lifestyle among young people, and strengthen Georgia’s rugby traditions.
