German FM: Some actors aren’t happy that some countries want to join EU, reforms are necessary

Not everything is rosy or pretty. You know that much better. There are actors who are not happy with the fact that some countries want to join the European Union, German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock said at the briefing held after meeting with the Georgian Foreign Minister.

According to her, when the states in Russia’s neighborhood openly talked about integration into the European Union, Russia did not applaud it, it was not excited about it.

“As a friend of Georgia, I will support Georgia’s integration into the European Union. Especially relating to the events that are difficult to support. Friendship is not just good weather that you can enjoy. There should be friendship in the event of a storm as well. The European Union, Georgia and Germany will do everything to bring Georgia to the European Union. The road to the European Union means that reform steps must be taken jointly. Not everything is rosy and pretty. You know that much better. There are actors who are not happy that some countries want to join the European Union. Not only during the Russian war of aggression in Ukraine, but the years before that, when the states in Russia’s neighborhood openly talked about integration into the European Union, Russia did not applaud it, it was not excited about it. This is not an easy way, it is necessary to implement reforms”, the Minister said.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Republic of Germany, Annalena Baerbock, paid a two-day official visit to Georgia.

She will meet with the Head of the Government of Georgia, Irakli Garibashvili and the President of Georgia, Salome Zurabishvili. Baerbock will also visit the occupation line and learn about the current situation on the ground.
