In May, annual inflation in Georgia decreased to 5.7%, data published by the National Statistics Office of Georgia (Geostat) shows.
The figure is down by 0.2 percentage points compared to April, when annual inflation stood at 5.9%.
Geostat says the main driver of inflation remains rising food prices, which increased by 5.2% in May and contributed 1.84 percentage points to the overall index.
The transport group was the second-largest contributor, with prices rising by 15.1%, adding 1.72 percentage points to annual inflation. The increase was largely driven by higher fuel costs, which rose by 22.7%.
Prices in the housing, water, electricity and gas category increased by 7%, contributing 0.66 percentage points to inflation. Higher costs were recorded for electricity, gas and other heating services, as well as housing maintenance and related taxes.
Alcoholic beverages and tobacco prices rose by 7.2%, contributing 0.46 percentage points, while healthcare prices increased by 5.1%, adding 0.43 percentage points to the overall index.
