The National Statistics Office of Georgia (Geostat) reported that Georgia’s average monthly subsistence minimum declined slightly in December 2025 compared to the previous month, while remaining significantly higher than a year earlier.
In December, the average subsistence minimum stood at GEL 250.9. This marked a month-on-month decrease of GEL 4.5 from November 2025 when the indicator reached GEL 255.4. Despite the monthly drop, the figure was GEL 20.4 higher than in December 2024, reflecting continued year-on-year growth in basic living costs.
For working-age men, the subsistence minimum in December 2025 was set at GEL 283.3. This was down from GEL 288.4 in November but notably higher than the GEL 260.3 recorded in December of the previous year.
The subsistence minimum is calculated on the basis of a minimum food basket. This basket defines the required quantities of essential nutrients, including proteins, fats, carbohydrates and calories, necessary to sustain normal living conditions and basic physiological functions for a working-age individual.
