On Monday, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze expressed his hopes that U.S. President-elect Donald Trump’s efforts to “defeat the deep state” would succeed, stressing that such an outcome is vital for growing and normalizing Georgia’s relationship with the United States.
Speaking on the day of Trump’s inauguration, Kobakhidze referred to the event as a pivotal moment for both America and the world.
“Today marks an important day. The inauguration of a new US president signals a turning point not only for America but also for the world,” said the Georgian PM.
He underscored Trump’s bold vision: “President Trump has launched an ambitious plan to defeat the ‘deep state,’ and we wish him success. Victory in this effort will be decisive for the normalization of US-Georgia relations.”
Kobakhidze reflected on the challenges of the past four years, both globally and domestically. He pointed out the ongoing war in Ukraine, instability in the Middle East, and Europe’s economic struggles as major difficulties during this period.
“The past four years have been challenging for both Georgia and the world,” he noted. “Crises have affected many regions—Ukraine remains embroiled in conflict, the Middle East is unstable, and Europe faces a severe economic crisis.”
He also criticized the spread of “pseudo-liberal propaganda” and what he termed the rise of “liberal fascism,” which he claimed had become a problem not only for Georgia but for other countries as well.
“Over the last four years, Georgia faced four attempted revolutions. Unfortunately, global peace has remained elusive, and our country has faced similar unrest,” he said.
Despite these difficulties, Kobakhidze expressed optimism for a more stable future under Trump’s leadership, emphasizing that the fight against the “deep state” is essential for global and regional stability.
“We have high hopes that the next four years will be calmer for the world and will positively impact Georgia,” he said. “We believe President Trump’s success in defeating the ‘deep state’ will lead to greater peace in the world, stability in our region, and the promotion of healthy, positive values over the harmful ones we’ve seen in recent years.”
The PM also reiterated his government’s commitment to resetting and strengthening Georgia’s strategic partnership with the U.S., looking forward to making significant progress in this area. “We are ready to restart our relations with the U.S. from a clean slate and hope that 2025 will mark an important year for these efforts,” he concluded.
