The Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure announced that all state-funded road infrastructure projects in Georgia will mandate the use of modified asphalt for top-layer paving, beginning in 2026. This decision was made after a recent meeting with road construction companies.
The goal is to improve road quality, durability and safety. As the ministry stated, modified asphalt offers superior resistance to extreme temperatures and mechanical stress, reduces surface cracking, extends pavement lifespan and improves tire grip, factors that contribute to safer driving conditions.
The meeting included technical presentations on modern asphalt modification technologies, the advantages of warm asphalt concrete and innovative stabilization methods using technological ash. Senior officials, including Deputy Chairmen of the Roads Department, attended the session.
