Following government approval of Resolution No. 389 on August 27, foreign IT professionals now have a new way to live and work in Georgia. The regulation creates conditions for specialists in the information technology sector to qualify for temporary residence permits.
The government emphasizes that the initiative wants to strengthen Georgia’s position as a regional technology hub, promote innovation and attract highly skilled talent. Importantly, the new rules also extend residency opportunities to family members of eligible applicants.
Eligibility Criteria
To qualify, applicants must show proof of professional experience and financial stability. Specifically, they are required to demonstrate a minimum annual income of $25,000, received in at least two separate payments spaced 30 days apart. In addition, they must provide a certificate confirming at least two years of IT experience.
The rules apply to three main categories of foreign IT workers:
- Labor immigrants officially registered in Georgia,
- Individual entrepreneurs with small business status engaged in IT,
- Managers and representatives of international IT companies operating in Georgia.
Application Process
Applicants must submit:
- An official application with a unique registration code from the Ministry of Health’s electronic system,
- Proof of identity and legal stay in Georgia,
- Documentation confirming the income requirement,
- A recent photograph, and a receipt for the service fee.
Additional steps are in place for entrepreneurs and representatives of international IT firms.
Document Verification
All documents issued abroad must be legalized or certified with an apostille. However, in cases where authenticity can be confirmed through international registries or other mechanisms, electronic submission will be accepted.
By opening its doors to foreign IT professionals, Georgia hopes to accelerate growth in its technology sector and create an attractive environment for international investment and innovation.
