Georgian Parliament is moving forward with a series of legislative reforms that will alter how political parties report financial contributions. Under amendments to the Law ‘On Political Unions of Citizens,’ political parties will no longer be required to submit information about donations and membership fees to the Anti-Corruption Bureau within five working days. Instead, parties will now have until the 15th of the month after the reporting month to disclose this data.
The revision is part of a bigger legislative package that includes significant structural changes, most notably, the abolition of the Special Investigation Service. Its responsibilities will be transferred to the Prosecutor’s Office, resulting in updates to 20 separate laws.
Parliament held a second hearing on the package today, reviewing the amendments article by article.
