The number of facilities put into operation in Georgia and their total area decreased slightly in the first half of 2026 compared to the same period last year, official data from the National Statistics Office of Georgia (Geostat) shows.

A total of 1,459 facilities were completed across the country between January and June, with a combined area of 1.54 million square meters. The number of completed facilities decreased by 5.3% compared to the first half of 2025, when 1,540 facilities were commissioned, while the total area decreased by 3.6% from 1.60 million square meters.

Tbilisi accounted for the largest share of completed construction, although the volume of newly commissioned space in the capital declined significantly.

In Tbilisi, 466 facilities with a total area of 763,719 square meters were put into operation, representing a 19.9% decrease compared to the first half of 2025, when the figure stood at 954,029 square meters.

Meanwhile, Adjara recorded a sharp increase in completed construction space. Although only 50 facilities were commissioned in the region, their total area reached 368,970 square meters, up 72% compared to 214,535 square meters in the same period last year.

Among other regions, Mtskheta-Mtianeti ranked second by the number of completed facilities, with 221 objects covering 97,951 square meters. Kakheti followed with 176 facilities (53,441 square meters), while Kvemo Kartli recorded 146 facilities (80,117 square meters).

Residential sector dominates

Residential real estate remained the largest segment of newly completed construction, accounting for 70.7% of the total commissioned area.

A total of 925 residential buildings with a combined area of 1,094,034 square meters were completed in the first six months of 2026, marking a slight 1% increase compared to the same period last year.

Other sectors saw declines. Twenty hotels with a total area of 147,294 square meters were commissioned, down 8.7% year-on-year.

The industrial and warehouse sector recorded 135 completed facilities with a total area of 128,256 square meters, a 22.5% decrease.

Retail facilities also declined, with 144 facilities covering 58,207 square meters put into operation, down 21.9% compared to the first half of 2025.
