Georgia and China have moved their relations to a “comprehensive strategic partnership” stage, deepening bilateral cooperation, officials said.
The decision was announced in congratulatory messages exchanged by Chinese President Xi Jinping and Georgian President Mikheil Kavelashvili on the 34th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
Speaking at a briefing on June 9, Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze said the upgrade marks a new phase in bilateral relations.
“Today is a very important day… We are now moving to a new stage of our relations – this is the stage of comprehensive strategic partnership,” Kobakhidze said.
He said the agreement will further deepen political and economic ties between Georgia and China, highlighting existing cooperation achievements.
Kobakhidze pointed to visa-free travel, direct flights, and the expansion of air connections as key results of the partnership, alongside growing trade and economic links.
He added that bilateral relations have “deepened significantly” in recent years, including through concrete cooperation projects.
