Georgian Foreign Minister Maka Bochorishvili underscored the importance of deepening cooperation and strategic partnership between Georgia and Armenia following her meeting with Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan in Tbilisi. She said the relationship between the two neighbours is not only significant for both countries but also vital for the stability and development of the wider South Caucasus region.
“Cooperation, friendship, and strategic partnership between Georgia and Armenia are important both for our countries and for the well-being and stability of the region,” Bochorishvili stated during a joint press briefing.
The minister highlighted the “long-standing history of mutual respect and friendship” between the Armenian and Georgian peoples, noting that the formal upgrade of relations to a strategic partnership in 2024 was a natural continuation of these ties. She recalled the numerous high-level exchanges in recent years, including visits by Armenian officials to Tbilisi and her own repeated visits to Yerevan. Most recently, Armenia’s Prime Minister took part in the Tbilisi Silk Road Forum, while an upcoming visit by the Armenian President is also expected.
Bochorishvili said bilateral cooperation is progressing across a wide range of areas, including trade, transport, tourism, culture, education, and the economy, with relevant ministries working actively to enhance these ties. The ministers discussed current priorities, future plans, and coordination on regional matters.
She emphasized Georgia’s support for the peace agreement reached between Armenia and Azerbaijan in Washington on 8 August, describing it as a “historic step” towards long-term stability in the South Caucasus. Georgia, she said, has consistently contributed to regional development and intends to continue fostering cooperation.
In this context, Bochorishvili highlighted the trilateral Armenia–Georgia–Azerbaijan meeting hosted in Tbilisi earlier this year—an initiative aimed at building a foundation for mutually beneficial cooperation among the three countries. “I remain hopeful that this cooperation will continue and bring tangible benefits for all three nations and for the region as a whole,” she said.
Bochorishvili underlined Armenia’s consistent support for Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity at the international level. She noted that both countries cooperate effectively across various international organisations and plan to continue this work.
The ministers also reviewed major regional and global developments, as well as their countries’ coordination with international partners.
Concluding her remarks, Bochorishvili thanked Mirzoyan for his visit and expressed confidence that the partnership between Georgia and Armenia will continue “in a manner befitting the historic friendship, exemplary relations, and the spirit of strategic partnership” between the two nations.
