The Prime Minister of Georgia, Irakli Garibashvili, answered journalists’ questions at a briefing at the administration on March 12, speaking for the first time about secret telephone recordings. He claims that the audio file is a fabrication.
“These records are a fabrication of records from 11 years ago . First – it was once again confirmed that we were then victims of eavesdropping. The second is that the record consists of [a mix of] lots of conversations; it is a fabrication.
I was the head of Bidzina Ivanishvili’s charity fund for 8 years. We managed a number of projects in Georgia, we had 200-300 million projects during the year. Mr. Ivanishvili spent $3 billion through this fund. Naturally, I had to communicate directly with government agencies, including ministers,” stated Garibashvili. “The recording related to this conveying of information.”
Garibashvili also noted that no crime was committed because there are no victims.
“There was simply a conversation in front of neighbors and family members. There was a certain organized group that threatened to liquidate Bera Ivanishvili, there were threats and a lot of insults. Anzor Chubinidze’s direct duty was to investigate, with the participation of the police. At that time, the security police were serving Mr. Ivanishvili.
How do you imagine- if such a crime had taken place during the “National Movement”, would they have investigated this crime and left it unanswered?
“No crime has been committed, this is a common falsity that our society has seen,” the PM said.
