The ‘Gakharia for Georgia’ party has released a statement addressing the second summoning of former Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia by the Parliamentary Investigative Commission regarding the Chorchana checkpoint case.
The party says Gakharia has confirmed his willingness to testify before the commission remotely while he is abroad on a pre-planned visit. He expressed readiness to join the June 23 session online, citing that remote participation is permitted under the commission’s own regulations and had even been suggested by the commission during his previous appearance.
Gakharia had already testified once before the commission on April 14, 2025, in a session that lasted six hours. Despite this, the commission officially informed the party on June 22 that it would not allow remote participation and insisted on his physical presence at the upcoming session.
The party criticized this decision, calling it baseless and contradictory if the commission is genuinely interested in Gakharia’s account regarding the Chorchana issue.
“Giorgi Gakharia once again confirms his readiness to speak to the commission on the Chorchana checkpoint issue, remotely, before he returns to Georgia,” the statement concludes.
