“NATO does need Georgia, a Georgia that has a pluralistic parliament, an independent judiciary, and a government that is accountable to both,” Former US Ambassador to Georgia Ian Kelly wrote on Twitter, responding to the statement of Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili that NATO needs Georgia as much as Georgia needs it.
“NATO does need Georgia — a Georgia that has a pluralistic parliament, an independent judiciary, and a government that is accountable to both. All friends of Georgia should support those who are working to achieve it,” wrote Kelly.

Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Garibashvili wrote on social media yesterday that it is time for Georgia to advance in NATO and that NATO needs Georgia as much as Georgia needs it.
He noted that Georgia is ready to fully share the responsibility of collective defense.

“On April 4, 1949, with the signing the Treaty of Washington, the North Atlantic Treaty Organization – NATO was established.
“In cooperation with the Alliance, Georgia has made great progress in developing democracy and improving its military infrastructure.
“Today, Georgia is one of NATO’s closest, most reliable partners. Our military contributes with great professionalism and dedication to peacekeeping operations, be it the NATO Resolute Support Mission in Afghanistan or the EU missions in the Central African Republic and Mali.
“We are ready to fully share the responsibility of collective defense,” Georgian PM stated.
