Veterinarians from the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) facilitated an educational session for students of Georgia’s Agricultural University. The session blended theoretical and practical aspects, during which FAO experts discussed the current state and challenges of Georgia’s dairy sector, with a specific focus on food safety. The initiative is part of the EU and Sweden-funded ENPARD IV program, which supports agricultural development in Georgia.
The practical part of the workshop took place at Papa’s Farm in the village of Qvenatkotsa, Kareli Municipality. Students met a local dairy farmer, toured milking facilities, examined both old and new livestock housing, and conducted quality checks on raw milk samples.
FAO and the Agricultural University plan to expand their partnership in the future and hold training programs on aquaculture as well.
