The foreign ministers of the European Union have approved a new package of sanctions against Iran, the EU Council announced following a meeting in Brussels.
Council announced that the newly adopted measures target individuals and entities linked to actions that the EU says undermine regional stability and violate international obligations. The sanctions package includes asset freezes and travel bans, as well as additional restrictions aimed at curbing activities deemed destabilizing.
EU officials noted that the decision reflects continued concern over Iran’s conduct, including issues related to regional security, military cooperation, and human rights. The bloc stressed that the sanctions are designed to increase pressure on Tehran while remaining aligned with international law.
“The European Union remains committed to using restrictive measures as a tool to respond to actions that threaten peace and security,” the Council said in a statement.
The EU also reiterated its position that diplomatic engagement remains essential, while emphasizing that sanctions will remain in place as long as concerns over Iran’s behavior persist.
