The European Parliament says Georgia cannot join the EU unless its government reverses its authoritarian course, declaring support for the Georgian people.
In a strong statement, MEPs said last year’s “rigged elections” marked a turning point away from democracy. They accuse the ruling Georgian Dream party of capturing state institutions, enacting repressive laws, targeting the opposition, rejecting EU integration, and aligning with Russia.
The EP stressed that free and fair elections are essential, adding that until then, it does not recognize Georgia’s current government and considers the country’s EU path suspended.
