Charles Michel to Meet Georgian Authorities Today

Following the signing of an agreement between the Georgian Dream and the opposition parties, President of European Council Charles Michel will personally visit Georgia today, April 20, to meet the local authorities and political actors.

As part of today’s visit, Michel will meet with President Salome Zurabishvili, Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili, Parliament Speaker Archil Talakvadze and representatives of political parties who signed the updated compromise document proposed by him.

He is expected to arrive at Tbilisi International Airport at 15:00.

Following his arrival, a meeting between he and Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili will take place at 15.30. At the end of the meeting, the sides will make joint statements for the media at a briefing.

At 17:00, Michel will meet the Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Garibashvili.

Following the meeting with the Georgian PM, he will meet with the Speaker of the Parliament Archil Talakvadze and representatives of political parties in Parliament.

In the evening, the working visit will be concluded with a dinner on behalf of the President of Georgia in honor of the European mediator.

An agreement has been reached between the government and some of the opposition parties. The document ‘A Way ahead for Georgia’ brokered by European Council President Charles Michel was signed yesterday evening at the Presidential Palace in Tbilisi, while the mediator himself attended it virtually.

Presently, only ‘United National Movement’ and ‘European Georgia’ refuse to sign the updated compromise document.
