Charles Michel Suggests Meeting between Gov’t, Opposition

“I invite all sides to meet tonight, it is time to move from facilitation to mediation,” – European Council President Charles Michel

European Council President Charles Michel offers a meeting between the government and the opposition today.

As he said at a briefing held after the meeting with Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili, he is very concerned about the deepening political crisis in Georgia.

“I invite all sides to meet tonight, it is time to move from facilitation to mediation,” he stated.

Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Garibashvili is ready to accept the proposal of the European Council President and to attend a meeting with the opposition today.

“I’m ready to attend and participate in this meeting. I want to confirm the readiness of our team to take concrete steps for the de-escalation and real constructive dialogue,” Garibashvili said.

In turn, opposition parties are also ready to attend the meeting. However, they note, no specific time and location is planned at this stage, however, “Since the initiator of this meeting is Mr. Michel, he will probably decide on these details as well.”
