The Deputy Mayor of Tbilisi, Irakli Bendeliani, today, March 23, issued a statement regarding the danger of a landslide and noted that construction work will be suspended in rainy weather.
“We also had communication with the National Environment Agency and, within the working group, we jointly decided that in case of rainy weather, construction works on Machavariani Street and the surrounding area will be put on hold,” Bendeliani said.
Experts arrived in Georgia on March 22. An invited expert and geologist from Germany Dr. Peter Neumann held a briefing where he said: “the issue is quite complex, for which there is no one specific solution. Of course, when you work on-site, the work environment itself is unfavorable, in the sense that too much rock is released, which in itself complicates the work process. Of course, first of all, the specific current process must be identified and appropriate measures are taken. ”
Dr. Peter Neumann noted that primary measures should be taken. Reinforcement works should be carried out, and drainage and monitoring devices should be installed.
