Law enforcement officers have detained an armed man at the Holiday Inn Hotel in Tbilisi. Special forces, police, and rescue teams were mobilized to the area following reports of gunfire from one of the hotel rooms.
Eyewitnesses say that shots were heard at the scene. The suspect, reportedly a guest at the hotel, was apprehended by police.
“An investigation has been launched under Articles 236 and 151 of the Criminal Code, which cover threats as well as the illegal possession, purchase, and carrying of firearms,” said Vazha Siradze, Director of the Tbilisi Police Department. He confirmed that the detained individual was acting alone.
At this stage, the examination of the scene is still underway, and it has not yet been determined whether the weapon has been seized.
