Archpriest Giorgi Mamaladze was taken to Turkey for treatment, – Tornike Mamaladze, the archpriest’s brother, told journalists.
He added that the clergyman was taken to Istanbul by car in a horizontal position.
“Now we have crossed the border, we are going to Istanbul. First, examinations will be conducted, then treatment will be prescribed. The family knows that it will be a long process, but we are ready for everything, the main thing is that my brother gets back on his feet. He is lying down, we made a bed in the car because he cannot sit, so we decided to go by car, we hope that he will return to his family on his own,” Mamaladze said.
Archpriest Giorgi Mamaladze, who was convicted in the cyanide case, was released by the parole commission on February 14.
The cleric was arrested at Tbilisi airport on February 10, 2017. The courts of all three instances found him guilty of preparing the murder of Shorena Tetruashvili by using cyanide with a motive for revenge and sentenced him to 9 years of imprisonment.
