The Committee heard the Ambassador of China, Zhou Qian concerning the foreign policy aspects of China and its relations with Georgia.
“China is a key partner to Georgia and we are interested in hearing about the visions of this country concerning global policy and bilateral relations,” the Chair of the Committee, Nikoloz Samkharadze, noted.
Ambassador Qian dwelt on Georgia-China relations. “China was one of the first countries to establish diplomatic relations with Georgia. We cooperate on the basis of equality and mutual respect. We support the sovereignty and territorial integrity of each other and are good friends and reliable partners,” the Ambassador noted, adding that the cooperation is productive and bilateral trade circulation is increasing. The trading capacity upon the establishment of diplomatic relations has increased 400 times and constituted 1.9 bl. USD in 2022.
“China maintains the position of a tier-one export market and is in third place as a trade partner. China has always been and will always be a good friend and reliable partner for Georgia. We are committed to cooperating with Georgia to protect the national sovereignty, security, and key national development interests of each other,” the Ambassador added.
He moved to the cultural ties and expressed commitment to facilitating the enhancement of cooperation in the spheres of education, culture, science, sports, etc.
Speaking about Ukraine, the Ambassador stated that China maintains an objective and fair position, actively supports the peacekeeping negotiations, and calls on international society to create respective conditions. He emphasized the aid provided by China to Ukraine.
“The crisis in Ukraine has posed the acutest threat to global security and has become a concern for us all. In response to this problem, China introduced a global security initiative, namely, a common, comprehensive, cooperative, and sustainable security concept with the long-term objective to form a safe community offering dialogue, partnership, and common benefits. The concept envisages the mutual respect of sovereignty and territorial integrity, and the solution of conflicts and disputes by means of peaceful ways. It reflects the position of China on peace and security worldwide,” the Ambassador added.
