On October 22, about 20 participants of a protest on Rustaveli Avenue were administratively detained for attempting to block the road, the Ministry of Internal Affairs reported. Among those arrested was financier and founder of Sadagi, Nikoloz Shurgaia.
The Ministry stated that the rally, which began around 8:00 p.m., saw several participants attempting to illegally obstruct traffic. “Despite repeated warnings from patrol police, the protesters did not comply with lawful instructions, as their numbers did not give them the legal right to block the roadway,” the statement reads.
Additionally, a young woman who climbed onto a patrol police car, insulted law enforcement officers, their uniforms, and members of the public, was detained under Article 239 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which refers to hooliganism.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs emphasized that it urges protesters to refrain from illegally blocking roads or committing criminal offenses, warning that legal measures will be enforced against any violations.
The protest is part of ongoing demonstrations near the Parliament building, highlighting continued tensions in central Tbilisi.
