Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze has called on residents to actively support the removal of outdated garages and illegal structures in residential courtyards, promising that all demolition costs will be fully covered by Tbilisi City Hall.Speaking at a municipal government meeting, Kaladze said the initiative aims to free up space between residential buildings and transform it into green recreational areas for residents.
The first stage of the initiative has already begun in Varketili’s 2nd micro-district, where around 15 garages and illegal extensions have been dismantled with residents’ consent. The mayor, stated that the cleared area will soon be redeveloped into a recreational space, including landscaping and community facilities.
“It is important that we green the spaces between residential buildings as much as possible. With residents’ participation, we can design projects that everyone approves of — parks, seating areas, sports fields and other public amenities,” Kaladze said.
He emphasized that citizen involvement is essential for shaping the redevelopment projects, encouraging residents to actively engage in planning the future of their neighborhoods.
Kaladze assured residents that they will not bear any financial burden for removing the structures.
“You won’t spend a single tetri on removing these unsightly garages or illegal fences — the municipality will take care of everything,” he said.
At the same time, landscaping works are also underway in Varketili’s 4th micro-district, where a 3,200-square-meter area is being transformed into a new green zone.

- a children’s playground
- outdoor lighting
- irrigation systems
- security cameras
- modern urban equipment
