Otar Partskhaladze pleads not guilty as court reviews preventive measure

Former Prosecutor General Otar Romanov Partskhaladze has pleaded not guilty to charges related to the alleged organization of the premeditated murder of Levan Jangveladze. The Tbilisi City Court is set to consider the application of a preventive measure today at 2:00 p.m.

Partskhaladze’s lawyer, Gagi Mosiashvili, says the former official categorically denies all accusations. Speaking to InterpressNews, Mosiashvili stated that the case file contains no evidence linking Partskhaladze to the alleged crime and described the charges as a direct copy of the case against Gela Udzilauri.

“The materials were handed over to us late last night, around 11 p.m. After reviewing them, it became clear that this case is essentially a duplication of the Udzilauri case and has no factual connection to Otar Partskhaladze,” Mosiashvili said. “There is not a single piece of evidence proving his guilt. We therefore do not accept the charges and demand that no pre-trial detention be imposed.”

The defense also expressed skepticism about the objectivity of the court proceedings but stated it would exhaust all legal avenues to prove Partskhaladze’s innocence. Mosiashvili claimed that the case file lacks any direct evidence linking Partskhaladze to the alleged crime, emphasizing that criminal liability requires clear and concrete proof beyond reasonable doubt.

“There is no testimony, no material evidence, nothing that directly connects Otar Partskhaladze to this case,” the lawyer said. “Such evidence simply does not exist.”

Partskhaladze has been charged under Article 25, Part 109, Subparagraph “N” of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which pertains to organizing premeditated murder for profit. The charge carries a potential sentence of 16 to 20 years or life imprisonment.
