President Kavelashvili hails Czech election result as a milestone for Europe

Georgian President Mikheil Kavelashvili congratulated former Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babiš and his ANO party on their decisive victory in the Czech parliamentary elections, calling the outcome a “significant step forward for Europe.”

“I’d like to extend my sincere congratulations to Andrej Babiš and the ANO movement on their resounding victory in the Czech parliamentary elections,” Kavelashvili wrote on X. “This achievement represents a significant step forward not only for Czechia but for Europe as a whole. He is a true patriot, and I wish for Czechia to become even stronger and more prosperous under his leadership, all to the benefit of the Czech people. Georgia is eager to strengthen and expand its bilateral ties with the Czech Republic.”

The Czech elections, held on October 3–4 October, resulted in Babiš’s populist ANO party winning 34.5% of the vote and securing 80 seats in the 200-member Chamber of Deputies. The ruling coalition SPOLU (Together), led by Prime Minister Petr Fiala, came second with 23.4% and 52 seats. Although ANO fell short of an outright majority, Babiš is now seeking potential alliances with smaller parties, including Freedom and Direct Democracy (SPD) and the Motorists, to form a stable government. The results are seen as highly significant for Europe, with potential implications for Czechia’s position within the European Union and its support for Ukraine.

Kavelashvili underlined that Georgia remains committed to strengthening bilateral cooperation with Prague, framing the Czech outcome as not only a domestic shift but also an event with broader European importance.
