A confrontation broke out on Besiki Street in central Tbilisi on September 15, after several young individuals followed a march from the former Public Broadcaster building and directed insults at its participants.
Reportedly, the situation escalated near Rustaveli Avenue when one of the youths allegedly pulled out a firearm before police could intervene. The march participants pursued the group onto Besiki Street, where the armed individual sought refuge in a nearby café.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs later confirmed that officers arrested D.G., born in 2009, on charges of illegal purchase, storage, and carrying of firearms and ammunition. The ministry stated that activists tied the suspect inside the café and seized the weapon, which, upon initial examination, appeared to be a pneumatic pistol. Both the youth and the weapon were handed over to police.
The ministry noted that around 30 activists had been involved in the verbal clash at the Rustaveli-Besiki intersection. If the charges are confirmed, the offense carries a penalty of up to seven years in prison.
