Former head of the Co-Investment Fund, Giorgi Bachiashvili, has rejected allegations from the Special Penitentiary Service suggesting he may have colluded with prison staff and inmates in connection with a recent confrontation in his cell.
In a statement released through his lawyer, Bachiashvili called the claims a “fabrication” designed to mask what he described as systemic crimes by the authorities.
“Just as I could not have been near the so-called ‘green border’ where I was supposedly detained, I could not have organized any attack on myself,” he said.
Bachiashvili claimed that a convicted individual was deliberately placed in his cell and attacked him without provocation shortly after entry. He added that, prior to the incident, prosecutors had cut off his telephone communication with family and lawyers, while the prison director allegedly issued “well-known demands.”
Bachiashvili further claimed that individuals known to him could be transferred into his cell to intensify pressure and restrict his communication. “In such a case, I will immediately make this information public. Any communication with me can only take place through my lawyers,” his statement concluded.
