Giorgi Gorgadze, one of the individuals arrested on charges of participating in group violence during the ongoing protests near the Georgian Parliament, fainted during his trial at Tbilisi City Court, prompting a temporary suspension of the hearing.
A court doctor was immediately called in, and Gorgadze was escorted out of the courtroom for medical attention.
The incident led to an emotional outburst from the defendant’s mother, who addressed Judge Tamar Mchedlishvili with visible distress:
“Do you have a heart? Are you a human being?” she shouted, as bailiffs tried to calm her down.
She continued, urging officials to check on her son’s condition:
“Let them look after the child and show me how he is. He has never experienced anything like this before.”
Turning her frustration toward the prosecutors, she added:
“Aren’t you ashamed? You are sitting silently!”
Following the disruption, all attendees were ordered to leave the courtroom until the session resumes.
The prosecution says three of the detainees—Zviad Tsetskhladze, Vepkhia Kasradze, and Vasil Kadzelashvili—are charged with organizing and leading group violence and face 6 to 9 years in prison.
Five others, including Giorgi Gorgadze, Irakli Miminoshvili, Insaf Aliyev, Tornike Goshadze, and Nikoloz Javakhishvili, are accused of participating in the violence and could face 4 to 6 years behind bars.
