The Ministry of Internal Affairs has released a statement regarding the arrest of businessman Giorgi Ramishvili, confirming he was detained on July 6 at Tbilisi International Airport.
“Given the high public interest, we inform the public about the arrest of G.R., born in 1967,” the statement reads.
The ministry says law enforcement discovered a firearm, cartridges, and ammunition in Ramishvili’s hand luggage during a scanner check at the airport’s departure terminal. Although the firearm was registered in his name, he did not have the legal right to carry it.
The investigation is ongoing under Parts 3 and 4 of Article 236 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which pertains to the illegal possession and carrying of firearms and ammunition.
